ShakeFest
Summer Shakespeare Institute for Teachers:
July 13-18, 2009

This program is so good it ought to be part of the required training for anyone who wants to teach English!
It's both useful and fun, and it may change the way you teach forever.

Middletown High School

A completely unique, hands-on professional development program, endorsed by the NJEA, ShakeFest is designed to "shake" up your classroom, reawaken your creativity, and get your students excited about studying Shakespeare!

The Theatre's teaching artists and guest educators model a myriad of proven techniques to conquer "Shakes-fear" and master the Bard. This active, performance-oriented approach is also applicable to all grade levels and types of literature.

The diverse workshops and seminars that make up ShakeFest are designed to complement your prior knowledge about the Bard and help you take your teaching to a whole new level. Extensive classroom practice has shown that when students get on their feet and "speak the speech," they make enormous gains in both enjoyment and understanding of the text.

Our ongoing partnership with the world-renowned Folger Shakespeare Library helps us offer local teachers the most cutting-edge materials, presenters and curricula for teaching Shakespeare.
